Amer. /pooch-duh-MOH-nee-uhm/ Brit. /pooch-dee-MUHW-nee-uhm/ (n., pl. puigdemonia, -iums) The gray area between dependence and independence, esp. one that has exhibited violent disarray. A sort of independence, but not exactly. Etym.: A play on pandemonium and Carles Puigdemont – a separatist leader of Catalonia from the 2nd half of the 2010s, who first declared its independence from Spain only to suspend it seconds later so they could negotiate. This prompted the Spanish government to officially inquire "So, are you independent or what?".
