Though not a state, the District of Columbia (Washington, DC) is also EXTREMELY and densely Blue: 90% of the more than 500,000 people there voted for John Kerry! That's even more than the New York City area! Also, what The Midwestrn Soldier said is very, very true. Most of the people who voted Democrat do accurately fit the descriptions he listed.
