Persia has always been a country with a rich culture and like many ancient religions has produced a great number of gods for every tiny aspect of life (not to be called sexist, they made sure that there were gods as well as goddesses). As Persia later on became part of Macedonia under Alexander the Great and then later on part of the Roman empire, the Persian, Greek and Roman religions became mangeled over time and in the end shared many gods, though they might be different by name.
