Punjab refers to an area that spans both Northwestern India and Northern Pakistan. In northwestern India there is a province named Punjab. Likewise, in Pakistan, there is a province called Punjab. According to 2012 census data, the population of Punjab in India was 27.98 million. According to 2015 data, the population of Punjab in Pakistan was 101.4 million. In the Punjab province of India, Sikhs are the majority inhabitants of the Punjab, while Hindus are in the minority. In the Punjab province of Pakistan, the majority of the inhabitants are Muslims.
