Transient hallucination, usually experienced while under the influence of psychoactive substance(s). The person experiencing a shadow trip will have insight into the fact that it is a perceptual disturbance, not part of the shared reality - this insight is a distinguishing characteristic. Shadow trips are most often a visual hallucination, but can be also be experienced as a brief auditory, olfactory, tactile or gustatory hallucination. Shadow tripping can be a pleasant experience, but is sometimes frightening and uncomfortable. Drug induced illusion.
