On the Internet, edgy refers to someone who feels that opinions out of the mainstream are automatically better, and that holding these opinions makes them smarter and better than people who do not. An edgy person feels the need to constantly lord their sense of superiority over the "dumb sheeple" who are not edgy. An edgy person does not pick their battles/arguments the way most people do, rather they will jump at the tiniest chance to tell you how smart and nonconformist they are, often shoehorning their "shocking" opinion into largely-unrelated conversations and intentionally using the most inflammatory words they can think of. It's the intellectual equivalent of giving yourself green spiked hair and looking down on people who don't.
