An Australian TV-show, produced by FreemantleMedia and broadcast on SoHo (2013-2016) and Showcase (2017-now), set in Melbourne, about the inmates, staff and family members of a women's prison, Wentworth has been awarded several nominations and awards in its lifetime. It revolves around Bea Smith (played by Danielle Cormack), a new inmate in the prison. It is loosely based on Prisoner, an Australian soap opera set in the Wentworth Detention Centre, a fictional women's prison, which ran from 27 February 1979 to 11 December 1986. It is broadcast in over 80 countries, and has multiple international remakes, including Dutch ("Celblok H"), German ("Block B: Unter Arrest") and Belgian (title TBA 2017/2018) ones.
