Memeing around is the present participle of the verb to meme. It is not synonymous with messing around (which is not thought through) and hanging out (which is too thought through). Memeing around is the perfect word to use when you just want to "joke" around with friends but your time has a little bit of thought, and it's less effort than joking around because you are mostly on your phone sharing/dealing memes.
