The Mississippi Gulf Coast; the area within southern Mississippi that is along the Gulf of Mexico. Best known for its beaches, casinos, Mardi Gras parades, seafood, and military installations. It is one of the most diverse areas in Mississippi. Comprised of Jackson, Harrison, and Hancock counties. The cities on The Coast are (from east to west): Moss Point, Pascagoula, Gautier, St. Martin, Ocean Springs, D'Iberville, Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach, Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis, and Waveland. Locals may also refer to the area as "The 228" (228 being the area code).
