Chud
As of the 2020s, the term "chud" is used to describe adults who usually fall on the right-wing side of politics. (A few people say it refers specifically to far-right politics, but in most cases that is an overstatement and oversimplification of the political spectrum. I have therefore used "right-wing" as it is more accurate in this context.) Using the previous pejorative meaning, calling someone a chud implies they are ugly and/or disagreeable. The original use of the word was as an acronym for "Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers" in the 1984 movie C.H.U.D. The slang derivative was coined by the hosts of the Chapo Trap House podcast and popularized on the r/chapotraphouse subreddit. More recently, it has evolved in meme culture with "Chudjak" (a Wojak variant), which is sometimes used in ironic or self-deprecating ways by some people on the right. TL;DR: Chud started as a term for an ugly or unpleasant person (from the 1984 film acronym), then was picked up and repurposed by leftist online communities (like Chapo Trap House fans) as an insult for right-wing or reactionary people—while still carrying the original "ugly/unpleasant" connotation. Writers' note: This wasn't written by AI for those who think an em dash is something only AI uses.
My friend said he would vote for JD Vance. Is he a chud? My dad voted for Trump; he is a chud. If you like Elon Musk, you are a chud. Following Marco Rubio? That's definitely a chud.
